Costa Brava
Costa Brava is located in the north-eastern coastal area of Catalonia in Spain, and stretches from the northeast of Barcelona across to the French boarder.
It was in the 1950s that the Spanish government saw the potential of Costa Brava as a tourist destination and set about developing hotels and apartments in the popular towns of Blanes, Lloret de Mar and Tossa de Mar, along with this and Costa Brava's beautiful beaches and long hot summers, tourism soon became a major money earner of Costa Brava. However Costa Brava also has an added advantage to offer and that is the area's which have remained untouched by any developments and so offer a sense of traditional Spanish life along the coastline, some of these small towns include Cadaques and Roses.
Costa Brava is a country that is well know for its fishing business, with many of the traditional fishing villages still being around, it not only gives tourists the chance to taste the gorgeous traditional dishes but also the chance to experience first hand the food being caught right in front of them.
However many locals fear that towns will get taken over by tourism and have since fought for the rights to save certain area and marine life. Due to this Spain's first maritime nature reserve, Illes Medes was built to help look after Costa Brava's large marine life.
