Ibiza
Ibiza is located in the Mediterranean Sea and is the third largest of the Balearic Islands. The largest cities in Ibiza are; Santa Eularia des Riu, Sant Antonio de Portmany and Ibiza Town. The founders of Ibiza were the Phoenician seetlers; they named the port Ibossium which was from the Phoenician god of music and dance called, Iboshim. However it was the Greeks who were the first to call the island the 'Pine Covered Islands'. Ibiza became a very popular trading post amongst the Mediterranean islands. Ibiza was long under the control of Carthage, even though it was attacked several times Ibiza managed to become a passing through island which allowed the armies to gather supplies and then sail through to Mallorca. For this reason Ibiza can offer tourists a glimpse at what Carthaginian-Punic civilization would have been like around this time period.
As well as being well known for its beautiful cove beaches, and towering cliffs covered with gorgeous pine tree's, Ibiza is hugely known for its extremely lively nightlife which is a massive hotspot for the younger generations all over the world. Not only is Ibiza a hotspot for general tourists but it also attracts a high number of celebrity figures and many popular DJs all wanting to have the summer experience of the Ibiza nightlife. Although there are hundreds of bar's and clubs in Ibiza there are 7 major hotspots which see a massive amount of holiday makers in the summer months, these are; Amnesia, Eden, Space, Privilege, El Divino, Pacha and Es Paradis.
However the Spanish tourist office have tried to get tourists to see Ibiza not just as a party capital but as a family destination too, this has therefore meant Ibiza has seen a rise in the number of families taking time out to find that Ibiza allows them to relax on its beautiful white sandy beaches, but also due to it only being a small island it allows them to travel around easily and look at the history behind the beautiful island.
