Menorca
Menorca, which is spelt in English as Minorca has its name for being the smaller island of Mallorca, and is also part of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Menorca is located to the north of Mallorca and is the second largest of the Balearic Islands, and even though it is one of the smaller islands it has the same number of beaches as both Mallorca and Ibiza do put together, which allows tourists the chance to both relax on a beach alone and enjoy the beautiful dining Menorca has to offer.
Menorca is known for its collection of stone monuments called; Navetes, Taules and Talaiots, these monuments allow visitors to get an idea of life in Prehistoric times. Along with the other Balearic Islands Menorca has a history of a turbulent past, with it being used by pirates to hide whilst they set upon the Romans, which later led to them being invaded and over took by the Romans along with Mallorca.
Due to Menorca's location it has a very different culture which goes from colonial to local architecture. For this reason Menorca is hugely popular amongst tourists who go to see their famous traditional summer fiestas. The fiestas go on for around three days, during these three days a man will carry a sheep on his shoulders around the streets and in the evening streets are close down and bonfires are lit.
When compared to holiday destinations such as Mallorca and Ibiza, Menorca can be seen as a lot smaller and quieter, and where Menorca isn't a party island it still has a night life to offer along their popular waterfront where tourist will find the majority of their bars. Menorca can also offer holiday makers something the other two islands cant, and thats the possibly of discovering many of its unknown and untouched charms!
